Well, i guess i haven't updated this in ages, and possibly longer than that! :)
i don't know why i don't update this more often. i guess it's that i don't think anything that i want to write is interesting enough for this journal. But it's probably because i am insecure about sharing my thoughts/feelings with people, even friends sometimes. i know i am shy about that sort of thing, and i'm not the type of person who feels thay can really open up to anyone. i guess i need to work on that.
Anyway, i was supposed to be updating this journal :)
Well i was really just gonna mention that i'm finally going to finish upgrading my computer (hopefully the last 2 parts will arrive tomorrow, and then i should have a happy stable computer!
The reason i am upgrading is that my PC keeps crashing randomly, even when i'm not doing anything, but more often when i'm playing games. i know it's a hardware issue, because it happens with both Win98SE (main hard drive) and Win2000 (second hard drive).
i originally thought it was the power supply (only 350W and i was running 5 PCI cards, and 4 USB devices AND my monitor through it), so i got a 550W one, but it didn't change anything. So i upgraded the hard drive next (because it needed it, as it kept making horrible grinding noises when starting up). The i upgraded the memory, as i thought the memory might be faulty, and could be the cause of the crashes, but no...
So i saved up some more money, and upgraded the graphics card (partly because i thought that might be the cause of the crashes, and partly because i needed a better graphics card to play my new games *grins*).. But that didn't alter anything...
next on the list - Either the sound card (an old SB Live card), or the motherboard. Well a new sound card would set me back 60 pounds, whereas a new motherboard was 90. So i settled for a new Audigy 2 card, and that sounds GOOD! but still the computer crashes!!! *grr*
So more saving up, and finally i can afford (well, okay, i can't afford it, but my VISA card can! *evil grin*) a new motherboard and a new processor, which should be arriving tomorrow!!! Yay! My computer will be nice and fast, and hopefully won't crash. And out goes Win98SE, and in comes Win2000 on the main hard drive, and the second hard drive will be housing a version of Linux (although i'd be happy if someone would give me advice on which version of linux i should go for - as i only have a very small experience of trying out Mandrake 9 for a few weeks without a clue as to what i was doing!)
Well that was a slow, but (almost) complete upgrade in a period of around 9 months. Roll on tomorrow! (Although i may still wait until the weekend to fit and install everything, as it always seems to take hours to re-install the drivers, and programs etc.)

May. 16th, 2003 08:28 pmWell, i got the new Enter The Matrix game for my PC yesterday, and it is becoming difficult to stop playing it! *grins*
But i realise that i need a new graphics card to really make the most of the whole game 'experience' (My poor GeForce 2MX card just doesn't cut it anymore *pouts* - but in it's defence it has kept me entertained through Morrowind, and Jedi Knight II, and it has done a good job too, but these new games require something better...)
Oh well...
In other news, it's now the weekend!!! Yay!!
Although that probably means i will be stuck to my computer playing Enter The Matrix more... heehee
But if it's dry tomorrow, i may try to get my brother or dad to take me to see a couple of cars that i've seen advertised for sale on the autotrader website (i really need one of those too!)
i shall wait and see what tomorrow brings :)

Apr. 30th, 2003 09:33 pmi received an e-mail today from Wembley Arena saying that the Tatu concert has been cancelled and wouldn't be rescheduled... *pouts* And after i'd booked the coach to London and everything.
At least they gave me an address to send the tickets to get a full refund.
But at least the weekend is not a total loss, as Tal and i are still gonna meet up, and go to London anyway, so that is good!

Well, i've seen one concert so far this year, and have 4 more booked to see, and looking at them, i realise that they are an odd collection and must say something about either me, or my musical tastes :)
i saw Tori Amos back in January with my friend Anna, and that was awesome!
On Friday i am going to see Russian pop duo Tatu in London.
Next month i am going to see US rocker Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band in London with my brother.
In June i am going to see US folksinger Ani Difranco in London with my friend Mel.
In August i am going to see Finnish metal band "Nightwish" in London.
If i had more money, i would probably book a ticket to see Suzanne Vega in July, but i don't think i can afford it.
But anyway, 5 concerts in one year is a record for me (i did 4 last year), and i am really looking forward to seeing Bruce Springsteen, and i am very excited about seeing Ani for the 5th time in 5 years, her shows are always something special, although the last one i saw was amazing, and the best out of all the Ani shows i've been to, if she manages to top that, i will be surprised and VERY happy :)

The insurance company finally paid me...

The gave me £350 - which they said was the maximum they could give for a car as old as mine, in the condition it was in. So i have some money to put towards a new-ish car, which is a good thing, unfortunately, new-ish cars seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment (well, ones in my price range).
Still it's nice to know that i will have some money in the bank for a little while anyway! :)

A long couple of days!

Well, it didn't die completely, but it kept failing every 1/2 hour or so, and when it failed, it made some very strange metallic grinding noises and my computer stopped working!
i had thought it might die at some point soon, so i had bought a new 80GB drive ready to install when my current drive died, and i spent all of Wednesday formatting the new drive and installing an operating system (Win98SE) and all of my hardware and most of my software, and then i connected my old "very-near-death" drive as a slave-drive and tried copying the "My Documents" folder (which has all of my mp3s, photos and downloaded programs, and all of my important stuff - about 7GBs of stuff!!), but it took 35 minutes to do it, and 4 mins from the end the drive failed again, making horrible grinding noises!
i restarted the PC and the boot sequence said it couldn't find the slave drive and i was a bit panicky as i NEED all of the stuff in the My Documents folder, so i restarted and tried again and this time it worked! Yay!!
So that took me from 11am (when i started it) to 9pm (when i finally stopped for the night due to exhaustion! *grins*
And then today i was just gonna check on my mail and use the net to relax, but my uncle came over and showed me how to use Partition Magic 7.0 and i ended up partitioning my new hard drive in half and installing Linux (Mandrake Linux 9 to be exact) and the partitioning was left running on my computer and that alone took 5 hours to complete!!! And then i had the fun of installing Linux, which was surprisingly hassle-free, and took hardly any time at all!
But then before i could start using it, i HAD to watch Buffy and Angel! (and record them for Anna *smiles*).
So then i finally get on my computer to check mail and internet, and that brings me to here and now, which is just after 1.30am and i am about to fall asleep, but i felt i should write this entry first.
Tomorrow morning i am gonna have to do a search for linux drivers (or whatever it is that Linux uses), so it will run my modem, as it detected everything but the modem (It even detected the exact make & model of every bit of hardware on my PC without anything needing to be installed from the CDs, which i thought was pretty amazing! But i cannot connect to the net with it yet...
Anyway, i'm sleeping now!

I took the Inner Dragon online quiz and found out I am a White Dragon on the inside. If there ever was an apparition of balance, power and reclusive intelligence, my Inner Dragon is it. Whites are a fairly common dragon and are considered one of two harmonious dragons. My antithesis is the evil Black Dragon.
My Inner Dragon likes to think things out, plot against enemies, and look down upon the world from the highest mountain peaks. My favorable attributes are the Day, the Sun, truth, a positive attitude, and helpful magic. Humans only need fear me when they stray into my domain without proper tribute. Of course, that tribute would probably be a cake the size of a Volkswagen, but hey, if they wanted to move through my turf they should have brought it, right? If someone ever really wanted a fight I'd be an impressive opponent, considering I pack a breath weapon combination of Fire and Lightning. Even the nicest dragons can do some serious damage.
